In 2001, a team of forward-thinking professionals at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. and Humana sought to empower physicians and other Florida health care professionals with a smarter approach to their daily business transactions with health plans. Their goal was to connect providers of care with multiple health plans through a secure, internet-based, HIPAA-compliant network. The network would allow for automation of the most common business transactions, so physicians could return their attentions to patients, not paperwork.
More than a decade later, Availity is one of the leading health information networks in the country, optimizing information exchange between multiple health care stakeholders through a single, secure network. The Availity® Health Information Network encompasses business and clinical services, and supports nationwide real-time and batch electronic data interchange via the Web and through business-to-business integration.
We’ve shown that our collaborative model, dynamic technological innovation and in-depth understanding of the health care industry works. Availity now delivers health information solutions to a growing network that currently includes more than 200,000 physicians and providers of care, 1,000 hospitals, 1,300 health plans and 450 industry partners. Most importantly, we’re reaching the goal of making health care about patients, not paperwork.

OneHealthPort
OneHealthPort uses secure portal technology to support and accelerate the exchange of business and clinical information within its trusted community.
OneHealthPort was created by a coalition of health plans, physicians and hospitals that joined together to build a trusted community where business and clinical information could be shared securely and simply. Their goal: to improve all parties’ efficiency and effectiveness by applying collaborative information technology solutions. The consortium of founders includes The Everett Clinic, First Choice Health Network, Group Health Cooperative, Premera Blue Cross, Regence BlueShield, The Sisters of Providence and Swedish Hospital.
OneHealthPort offers healthcare professionals an easy and secure way to access the provider sites of major local health plans, hospitals and other valuable online service. Rather than placing time-consuming phone calls or logging into several different web sites, OneHealthPort users can gain access to information from all participating organizations using one common security solution. Subscribers register only once and are issued a single digital ID that provides single sign on across all participating sites. In addition, all parties within the trusted community enter into a common contractual framework that addresses HIPAA requirements and other information sharing issues. Finally, OneHealthPort serves as a single source of training and promotion to get online services adopted and drive usage.
