Manager - Family Birth Center
To provide direction and supervision in of the delivery of nursing care in our Family Birthing Center. As such, he/she has 24 hour responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, department operation and staff function. Will occasionally be directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. Assesses, plans, implements, directs, and evaluates all services provided within the department. Duties include budgeting, capital expenditure, staffing, performance improvement, patient rounds, planning services, staff training and supervision, performance evaluations with improvement plans as necessary. Possesses the technical skills to act quickly, knowledgeably, and appropriately in any situation that may occur. Works with patients, customers, and the community with flexibility and adaptability.
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to: A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures; knowledge and skills in techniques of good patient care. Knowledge of AWHONN standards, practices, and recommendations. The person must be dependable regarding attendance, self-motivated with good communication skills. Annually participates in at least 20 hours of continuing education and attends atleast one management of specifically focused conference per year.
License/Certification: RN currently licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing in good standing. BLS and NRP required; ACLS and RNC-OB preferred. STABLE within six months of hire date.
Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or BS degree or equivalent experience required. Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of five years and two years supervisory and/or management experience required. Previous satisfactory Maternity Services experience relevant to the patient population of this hospital. A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures; knowledge and skills in techniques of good patient care. Must be able to read and write English as well as speak and understand English. May need to assist with staffing for short term needs such as lunch relief, vacations or illness. The person must be dependable regarding attendance, self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers. Normal or corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in heartbeats, breathing, and monitor alarms. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
